How to Uninstall Illow from Your Website

If you’re looking to uninstall Illow from your website, it’s important to first identify the method you used to integrate Illow’s script into your site. The removal process varies depending on how the script was added. Below, we’ll guide you through the steps for each method.

Step 1: Identify the Integration Method

Illow’s script could have been added to your site through one of the following methods:

    1.    Google Tag Manager (GTM)

    2.    WordPress Plugins

    •    Illow Plugin

    •    Other plugins used to insert custom HTML or scripts (e.g., Code Snippets, Header/Footer plugin)

    3.    Manually Added Script

    •    Script directly pasted into the site’s header or footer.

Step 2: Uninstallation Steps

1. Google Tag Manager (GTM)

If you used Google Tag Manager to add the Illow script:

    1.    Log in to your Google Tag Manager account.

    2.    Find the Container associated with your website.

    3.    Search for the Illow tag:

    •    Navigate to the Tags section.

    •    Look for the tag labeled “Illow” or one containing Illow’s script.

    4.    Delete or Pause the tag:

    •    Click on the tag, and select Delete or Pause from the options.

    5.    Save your changes and publish the updated container.

2. WordPress Plugins

If you used the Illow WordPress Plugin:

    1.    Log in to your WordPress dashboard.

    2.    Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.

    3.    Search for the Illow plugin in the list.

    4.    Click Deactivate, then select Delete to remove the plugin entirely.

For other plugins used to add custom scripts:

    1.    Navigate to the specific plugin where the Illow script was added (e.g., Code Snippets, Header/Footer plugin).

    2.    Locate the script associated with Illow and delete it.

    3.    Save the changes and clear your website cache if applicable.

3. Manually Added Script

If the script was manually added to your site’s header or footer, follow the steps below to remove it. These steps cover scenarios for both CMS-based websites (like WordPress) and custom HTML-based websites.

1. Access Your Website Files

    •    For CMS Platforms (like WordPress):

    •    Go to your CMS dashboard and navigate to the area where you can edit your site files.

    •    In WordPress, this is typically found under Appearance > Theme Editor.

    •    For Custom HTML Websites:

    •    Use a code editor to directly access the website’s files.

2. Locate the Illow Script

    •    If added to your CMS:

    •    Look for files where custom scripts are typically inserted, such as:

    •    header.php or footer.php (WordPress or similar CMS).

    •    Plugins or widgets that allow for custom HTML/JavaScript insertion (e.g., Header/Footer plugins).

    •    If added to a custom HTML website:

    •    Open the .html file(s) where the Illow banner appears.

    •    Look for the Illow script, which usually appears like this:

<script src="https://platform.illow.io/..."></script>

Step 3: Verify Removal

Once you’ve removed the script using the appropriate method:

    1.    Clear your browser cache and cookies.

    2.    Open your website in an incognito or private browsing window.

    3.    Check the site to confirm that the Illow banner no longer appears.

    4.    Use tools like Google Tag Assistant or browser developer tools to ensure the Illow script is no longer loading.

Important Note for CMS Users with SEO or Optimization Plugins

If your website uses a CMS (e.g., WordPress) and has SEO or optimization plugins (such as caching or performance enhancement tools), these plugins might manipulate your site’s cache. As a result, you may experience delays in updating your site’s resources, which could cause the Illow banner to still appear temporarily.

This issue is external to Illow and is caused by the functioning of these optimization tools. Typically, these changes should resolve automatically within 24-48 hours once the cache refreshes.
